Artist's Statement

I am a modern impressionist painter and my aim is to capture a sense of place in my work, or a moment in time, the dazzle of light on water in the early morning, or the illusive momentary pause before dusk.


John Shave lives in Norfolk although has spent much of lis life in Australia becoming a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts of South Australia, whilst also winning many awards for his paintings, both there and abroad and writing for Australian Arts magazines.

He exhibits at various regional galleries and with a number of the London Art Society exhibitions at at the Mall Galleries, including the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Royal Society of Marine Artists. He is also a member of the Wapping Group of Artists and his paintings are held in collections worldwide including Australia, Hong Kong, France, Germany, and Italy.

John teaches at various residential centers including Flatford Mill Field Studies Centre in Suffolk, Broadlands Art Centre in Norfolk and Watershed Studios in Essex and also privately at his home and studio in Norfolk, together with lecturing and demonstrating to art groups and societies.

He is also a demonstrator for Art Spectrum Art Materials.
